mt blanc A’s playoff game postponed to Wednesday
The Rochester Patriots are close to defeating the Rochester A’s for a second time this season, but they will have to wait about 24 hours to make it official.
The Patriots jumped to a 4 1 lead in the top of the ninth inning in the second round of the American Legion Division 1, Sub State 1 tournament Tuesday at Century High School. Before the A’s could attempt to answer, rain came crashing down. The game was postponed to today, back at Century. Thursday at Dartts Park in Owatonna. Friday at Dartts Park.
Although the Patriots hold the lead,
the A’s sat in a prime position to win heading into the ninth in a game that looked like one run would be enough for the win.
Travis Rittenhouse registered the hit that scored that run for the A’s in the bottom of the eighth to give them a 1 0 lead. Rittenhouse was outstanding Tuesday, going 4 for 4 to pace the A’s at the plate.
The A’s were just two outs away from closing the door and holding on for a 1 0 victory. But Zach Smith ended A’s pitcher Thomas Bruss’ shot at a complete game shutout when Smith hit the ball past the fence to tie the game at 1 all.
A’s pitcher Mac Horvath then entered the game and struck out the next batter.
Things only became worse for Horvath and the A’s from there. Two walks, an error and a wild pitch helped the Patriots take the 4 1 lead they will take into today. The Patriots scored two of their four runs off Horvath’s wild pitch, which he threw while rain began to poor down.
